World Zombie Days Music Event- Zombie PromDirty Wee Middens Live at London’s Dance of the Dead
Dance of the Dead: Zombie Prom was a thrilling event of live music and 'zombies'. Dundee-based band Dirty Wee Middens rocked the evening's midnight peak.
The celebration of all things bloody and ghoulish took place at the popular music pub, The Gaff, in North London’s Holloway, on April 4th. Fancy-Dress. A World Zombie Days EventIt was like being in Michael Jackson’s Thriller video as the event’s attendees paraded around dressed as the living-dead, with fake blood covering haggard-looking faces, and torn, tatty clothing giving the impression that they’d literally just climbed out of their graves after an untimely and brutal death. Everyone was in the true spirit of the night, which was an advance-ticket-only event held by World Zombie Days, with all the proceeds going to London’s homeless charity, St Mungo’s. Tits of Death Perform at World Zombie Days EventAs well as music from DJs throughout the night, some outstanding live acts performed on The Gaff’s stage. Tits of Death, a London-based all-girl band, were the second act on stage, after 100 Robots. They gave an adrenaline-fuelled performance, a good live act. Their pop-punk-electro sound was urgent and hypnotic, and their stage presence was insistent and bursting with energy. Their sex appeal was the important factor they used greatly. They were a refreshing antidote to UK pop girl group Girls Aloud. Dirty Wee Middens Live at World Zombie DaysDirty Wee Middens journeyed from Dundee for the gig. They took to the stage last, with full musical force. It was almost midnight, and The Gaff had long forgotten the outside world of metropolitan-London. They had become one with each other in the spirit of hard-rock and walking dead, celebrating music and gore. And so the Dirty Wee Middens’ performance came at the evening’s most crucial point, when the buzz in the atmosphere was high. Crowds flocked to the stage, and ‘zombies’ threw themselves about the place to the sounds of the Middens’ hardcore, power-rhythms, furious guitar-work, burning vocals, and relentlessly hard-hitting drumming. The Dirty Wee Middens have clearly chosen their own effective direction in rock-sound, and they deliver it with confidence. They were certainly the highlight of the evening, and a pleasant surprise for anyone doubting the old spirit of rock’s mighty presence on the small stage. Dirty Wee Middens UK Tour 2009Dirty Wee Middens have a UK tour about to start. They’ll be visiting London again on April 29th, to perform at The Victoria.
