Affordable Options for Those Wanting Warm Temps and Hot Music

With the summer concert season upon us, music festivals can be an affordable alternative to traditionally high priced shows.

The days are getting warmer and longer - a reminder that the summer rock music festival season has begun. For those who want more bang for their concert buck, festivals can be a great choice. Offering multiple acts over several days, festivals kick the summer music scene into overdrive.

Summerfest – Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee’s Summerfest, the self-proclaimed “world’s largest music festival,” is being held from June 25 - July 5, 2009. The lineup includes multiple headliners such as Bon Jovi, Puddle of Mudd, The Fray, Keith Urban, KISS, Stevie Wonder, Blues Traveler, George Strait, Heart, Staind, Billy Squier, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Foghat, No Doubt, Judas Priest, Kenney Chesney, Gavin DeGraw, Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Flogging Molly, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Tickets are being sold for $8-$85. With such a large selection of great performers and low admission prices, Summerfest is sure to offer an amazing concert experience for those on a budget.

Rothbury Festival – Rothbury, MI

The Rothbury Festival, taking place July 2-5, 2009, is a music festival which is being headlined by icons such as the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and the Black Crowes. Only in its second year, Rothbury has become one of the premier events of the summer.

Weekend general admission tickets run $249.50. Additionally, the festival is a “green” event with eco-friendly initiatives. According to the festival website, “Rothbury is guided by a bold environmental sustainability mission, [and is] dedicated to running as close to a zero-waste event as possible.”

Lollapalooza – Chicago, IL

Lollapalooza, a long-running summer music festival, is being held from Aug. 7-9, 2009. This year’s acts include Depeche Mode, Tool, The Killers, Jane’s Addiction, the Beastie Boys, Ben Harper, and Snoop Dogg. A dependable option for festival goers, Lollapalooza is one of the larger events and is sure to draw a diverse crowd. Tickets sell from $80-$205.

Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival – San Francisco, CA

San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival occurs Aug. 28-30, 2009, in Golden Gate Park. The lineup includes performers such as Pearl Jam, Incubus, the Dave Matthews Band, the Black Eyed Peas, Jason Mraz, the Beastie Boys, and Ween. Promoters are even offering a layaway payment plan for the three day tickets in an effort to ease the sting of the $225.50 price tag.

Bumbershoot – Seattle, WA

Seattle’s largest music and arts festival, Bumbershoot, is scheduled for Sept. 5-7, 2009. Held at Seattle Center, the festival takes place on the 74 acre complex nestled beneath the famed Space Needle. Originated in 1971, the established festival regularly brings in great performers such as this year’s Sheryl Crow, Jason Mraz, The All-American Rejects, the Black Eyed Peas, and Katy Perry. Three day passes range from $80-$420.

There are many great summer rock music festivals taking place across the country this year. Festivals offer an affordable option, allowing concert goers to experience many of their favorite performers for one low price. With such varied choices, summer festivals are sure to please even the pickiest of music lovers.
