A year shy of turning 70 the undisputed queen of rock Tina Turner kicked off her first stadium tour in eight years on October 1 in Kansas City to thunderous applause.
Shaking and shimmying her way through twenty-one songs Tina Turner proved that age is no barrier. Wearing micro minis and strutting in her trademark stilettos Tina owned the stage as she took the crowd through a musical journey of her life. The high-tech show complete with dancers, multiple costume changes and seasoned musicians featured some of her greatest hits – River Deep Mountain High, What’s Love Got to Do With It, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Proud Mary and of course Nutbush City Limits which is always gets the audience on its feet. Tina will spend the bulk of the tour in Europe and the UK where her legion of adoring fans have already snapped up tickets for what is being billed as a Las Vegas style show and an event not to be missed. Private DancerThe queen of reinvention, Tina survived years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her former husband Ike Turner before striking out on her own. She made her mark as a solo artist in 1984 when her album Private Dancer became a runaway smash hit. What’s Love Got To Do With It” became the first of seven singles from the album to reach number one. Private Dancer sold in excess of 20 million copies and won Tina four Grammy Awards. Since then she has been awarded 8 Grammy’s, inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and sold 170 million albums worldwide. And in 2005 Tina joined a select group becoming a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, America’s highest accolade for excellence in the arts. Wearing a skin tight silver pantsuit Tina wowed the audience performing two solos songs – What’s Love Got To Do With It and Better Be Good To Me before her duet with Beyonce. The crowd loved her, the press raved. And the performer in Tina was reawakened. Oprah, Tina Turner & CherOprah has long claimed to be the biggest Tina Turner fan in the world. The talk show host was in her element in May this year when Tina appeared on The Oprah Show from Caesar's Palace along with Cher. The pair performed Proud Mary and Tina sang a spirited rendition of Nutbush City Limits. And then Tina made her big announcement – she was going on tour at the end of this year for one last time. Tina told the UK’s Daily Mail this October, “I’m 70 next year, if I don’t do it now I’ll never do it and my voice is good, my body’s still holding out.
