Following on from the previous article, this one will look at some of the more smaller and specialist festivals that occur in British summer time.
With summer festival season nearly upon us this article will round up the more smaller festivals that are out there. The previous article focused on the more bigger, established festivals. While not complete it is merely meant a guide to the best ones out there. Due note should also go to the V Festival and T in The Park which attract huge audiences. The boom in summer festivals has seen an influx of more specialist festivals with crowds of much smaller sizes. These can prove to be a more viable option for those who prefer just one type of music or don't fancy struggling through the crowds at Glastonbury or Reading. Once again this is in no way a complete list. Beautiful DaysThis is rapidly becoming one of the more established smaller festivals. Started by The Levellers, it offers them a chance to play to their army of fans while also introducing other bands that they might like. The hippy atmosphere pervades as is the wont with travellers and is well worth a visit for something more akin to the traditional ideal of a festival. CreamfieldsThe daddy of dance music festivals has grown every year and now is established at a new site. Expanded to two days it also includes dance orientated bands such as Ian Brown or Kasabian as well as the usual DJ's. One for the more commercially minded dance fan. For the undergound dance fan there are many, many more which would require another article to list. Green ManAnother small festival which is started to become more established. This one is a bit more obscure in its choice of artists with mid range bands such as Super Furry Bands tending to headline. It also features a lot of unsigned talent and can be a great escape from life for a couple of days. Latitude FestivalThis is a sort of offshoot from the Glastonbury Festival and is getting bigger each year. Set in beautiful surroundings in the south of England it features a wide range of artists. As well as established artists and older, classic bands it also features a big comedy element. It is one for the more discerning who likes to enjoy a bit more than just music to their festival and well worth a visit. The festivals listed are just a small selection of what is out there in British summer time. They represent the wide diversity of weekends away that can be had. For more specialist festivals a quick web search will pull up many, many more. All that remains is for the summer to be fair and the rain to stay away...but then if it doesnt, as is the wont in Britain, then just don the wellies and have a Woodstock moment.
