Steven Tyler, lead singer for Aerosmith, has apparently lost his drive. Going solo won't help.
Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Tiki Barber all hit their primes in sports and did what many have a hard time doing: Leaving the job they loved. Music is a little different. For Steven Tyler and Aerosmith, music isn't what they make it's what they are. The 61-year-old rocker and lead singer of the band, according to guitarist Joe Perry, reportedly expressed his desire to leave online a few weeks ago which started a firestorm of reports. Aerosmith needs to get back in the studio, but Steven needs to find his drive to make music again. Even though they're now reporting nothing is going to happen, the band is concerned about Tyler. Who wouldn't be? With the recent release of Bon Jovi's The Circle, Aerosmith is beyond the expiration date when it comes to new material. The new CD release also makes Aerosmith's antics even more embarassing because they should be the ones talking about their new album, not talking about band troubles. That's a Guns-N-Roses issue. For band like Aerosmith, who has lasted this long without thoughts of going solo, it's time to get back into the studio and make more music. Stephen Tyler doing a solo album now would be foolish. However, the band hasn’t put out any new material since 2001, and have not captured the success they had in the 1990s with hits like Walk this Way and Elevator. Aerosmith are pioneers in the music industry. They broke racial barriers, and made rock music worth listening to. Steven needs to get driven again, bring back the sound that made them famous, and bless the world with another album. This is not the way a famous band should end. There's got to be something that can be done. When you think about Walk this Way, Dream On, Toys in the Attic, these songs were classics. Everyone from Billboard Magazine to VH1 have considered Aerosmith's songs some of the best in decades. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named Dream On and Toys in the Attic as two of the 500 songs that shaped Rock N'Roll. As in th words of Lionel Richie, "Let the music play on..."
