Since her debut in 2000 Pink has transformed from an R&B singer who was tipped to be the next Christina Aguilera into a fully fledged rock chick.

An unruly teenager who spent her days chain-smoking, drinking and skateboarding around Doylestown Pennsylvania where she grew up, Pink, now 29, is one of the highest selling female artists with 23 million record sales worldwide.

Can’t Take Me Home

Pink’s first album was very much anchored in the R&B genre drawing comparisons to the likes of TLC. The album gave Pink three top ten hits - There U Go, Most Girls and You Make Me Sick.

Can’t Take Me Home turned in a multi-platinum performance launching Pink on her way to becoming the star she always knew she’d be.

Lady Marmalade

After the success of her debut album Pink hit the charts again with a cover of La Belle’s Lady Marmalade for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.

Pink and her fellow Marmalade singers Christina Aguilera, Mya and Lil’ Kim took the song to the top of the charts in the US and UK picking up two MTV awards and a Grammy along the way.

Getting the Party Started

When it came to her second album, M!ssundazstood, Pink wielded her newfound fame over her record label demanding to produce a rock album.

Pink chose to collaborate with Linda Perry former lead singer of 1980’s band 4 Non-Blondes. The pair holed up in Perry’s LA house for three months to write. Legendary rockers Steve Tyler (Aerosmith) and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) also lent their talents.

Perry’s Get The Party Started shot to the top of the charts and the album sold more than 16 million copies. M!ssundazstood came in at number four on the Billboard charts for the year and Pink was the number one Top Billboard 200 Artist – Female.

Trouble

Pink missed the beat on her third outing. Try This a collaboration with Tim Armstrong lead singer of punk band Rancid didn’t have the same wide appeal as M!ssundazstood. But its single Trouble won her a second Grammy this time for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance (2004).

Not a Stupid Girl

After putting out three albums back to back Pink took her time with her next offering. I’m Not Dead Yet, released in 2006, was her most political and mature work so far.

Her ballad Dear Mr. President took a swipe at the Bush Administration, but it was Stupid Girls that confirmed Pink is nobody’s patsy. Its parody of painfully thin, compliant dolly girls resonated with women around the world. Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey dedicated an entire show to the topic and the song took out the MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video (2006).

In the Funhouse

In 2008 Pink is back with Funhouse. It’s obvious on this album that Pink is once again using her songwriting skills to get through a tough personal time.

In the past the focus has been on her feuding parents and rebellious childhood – the song Family Portrait is a great example.

Funhouse is an emotional rollercoaster that centres on the failure of her marriage to former motorcross star Carey Hart. The pair sporting matching tattoos saying ‘tru luv’ married in Costa Rica in a barefoot beach ceremony in January 2006. They split in February this year.

Whatever her inspiration, Pink knows how to entertain her fans. Released on October 28 Funhouse entered the Billboard charts at number two.

Funhouse is out on SonyBMG.
