Chris Martin has contributed to a Jay-Z song, and Jay has recorded a verse on a new Coldplay jam, now the mega-stars will come together live for the first time.

In September of 2009 Coldplay will be playing three stadium shows with platinum rap artist and former Def Jam executive Jay-Z. The shows will all take place in the United Kingdom at LCCC in Manchester on September 12th, Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland on September 16th, and the legendary Wembly Stadium in London on September 19th. While these artists have contributed to each other's music over the years, they have never performed together before.

Beach Chair

Jay-Z and Coldplay first worked together on Jay-Z's 2006 come back album Kingdom Come. Colplay front-man Chris Martin contributed music and vocals to a song called "Beach Chair," and, like much of Jay-Z's comeback album, it was a slightly underwhelming product. At the time however both artists expressed their respect for each other's craft and later collaborations seemed innevitable.

Lost +

This year Coldplay and Jay-Z got back together, this time to work on a Coldplay song for their EP, Prospekt's March. The song, entitled "Lost +," is a remix of a Coldplay track featuring a guest verse by Jay-Z. With its heavy emphasis on ryhthm and ample space, "Lost" was the perfect track for Jay to appear on. As usual Jay-Z's contribution is a strong and apt performance that strangely does not seem out of place on what is otherwise the sort of spirit-lifting ballad U2 has made a career out of.

The song also has a new video which features the Coldplay performing live with a super-imposed television on the stage. It is on this TV that we eventually watch Jay-Z plow through his verse. It may not be a big budget spectacle, but the communal sense of the song of comes through via an energized crowd and Chris Martin.
