Making a List of 100 Top Rock Songs

When asked to compile a list of 100 top rock songs, it would certainly help to look at a comprehensive list like this also and to listen to the top 100 greatest rock songs on NuTsie.

Sure, some of the music on the lists is more rock ‘n roll; other songs are certainly more soul or R&B and artists like the Mammas & Pappas, Michael Jackson, Elton John and the Beach Boys would certainly fit better in a pop music category than in a rock music one.

For most people, the contents of their personal top 100 rock songs list would depend on their age and on the era in which they listened to and enjoyed rock music most – probably their teens and twenties.

Golden Era of Rock Music

Many would argue that the sixties (60’s) and the seventies (70’s) were the olden era of rock music. By the late 1960s, rock music was blended with folk music to create folk rock; it was fused with blues to create blues-rock and with jazz, to create jazz-rock fusion. The hippie culture gave birth to psychedelic rock.

In the super seventies, as some called it, rock incorporated influences from soul, funk and latin music, which gave birth to disco and the Philly Soul sound. Also in the 1970s, rock music developed a number of subgenres; soft rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock and punk rock.
